Regardless of their final two matches, Liverpool are set to bolster their defense with Frimpong, widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football.
According to GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Frimpong is set to wear an unexpected squad number at his new club.
Jacobs shared via X (formerly Twitter) that Frimpong—who developed in Manchester City’s academy before making his name at Celtic—will take on the No.30 jersey upon his move from Germany to England.
He wrote: “Jeremie Frimpong has undertaken part one of his LFC medical. He will complete it on Monday ahead of a €35m move. Also understand Frimpong will wear No.30.”
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in the 2020/21 season, Frimpong has made a name for himself in Germany, and now he will be the first Liverpool player in a decade to wear that particular squad number. For those unfamiliar, the last player to don it was Suso during the 2014/15 campaign.
Prior to the Spanish winger, Charles Itandje held the number between 2007/08 and 2008/09, succeeding Daniele Padelli. Other notable players who have worn it include Boudewijn Zenden, Carl Medjani, Djimi Traore, Haukur Ingi Gudnason, and Tony Warner.
Born in Amsterdam, Frimpong has worn a variety of squad numbers throughout his career. During his time at Manchester City, he donned 12, 5, 14, and 71—the last of which he initially wore at Celtic before switching to 30.
Since joining Bayer Leverkusen, the adaptable Dutchman has continued to wear the number 30.
