Gary Neville responds to Conte’s ‘stupid’ comments

Gary Neville has responded to Antonio Conte calling him and Jamie Redknapp ‘stupid’ for their criticism after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

Chelsea lost a fourth league game in their last five games after the loss against City and Neville ripped into Conte’s players for their horrible performance.

The Manchester United legend labelled their display as an ’embarrassment’ and Conte hit back by defending his tactics against City.

‘I’m not so stupid to play open against Manchester City and lose 3-0 or 4-0,’ the Italian said.

‘If I remember well, three days ago, Arsenal played twice against City and then you criticised Arsene Wenger because they conceded three goals in only 30 minutes.

‘The pundit has to use the head to understand when you speak about tactics, because I think you must have knowledge to speak about tactics and not only to speak in a stupid way.’

Neville, speaking ahead of United’s clash with Crystal Palace said he was left speechless by Chelsea’s underwhelming performance.

‘I had to go quiet for two or three minutes on co-commentary because I had to reflect on what I was seeing,’ Neville said on Monday Night Football.

‘I suppose it disgusts me. I can’t relate to it in any shape or form. These Chelsea players yesterday took a day off, took a rest.

‘Antonio called us stupid, maybe he did, I don’t know the exact quotes, but he’ll have been equally as disgusted.

‘They chucked it in yesterday those players.’
