Greenwood & Foden axed by England after being caught with girls in England’s team hotel

Foden and Greenwood

Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden have been dropped from the England squad after bringing women into the England’s team hotel in Iceland.

The FA is investigating media reports in Iceland that the duo breached UEFA’s coronavirus protocols while at their team hotel in Reykjavik.

Phil Foden, 20, and Mason Greenwood, 18, both made their senior debuts with the England team in the 1-0 win over Iceland on Saturday.

But Icelandic outlet DV have claimed that girls were brought into their room on Sunday and have revealed video footage which was posted on Snapchat.

While speaking to DV, one of the women in the Snapchat video said: ‘We had no idea about these rules, they never said we could not take pictures.’

She also claimed to have been in a relationship with one of them, and added: ‘The only thing I can say is that I had been talking to one of them for a few days. I’m not going to say where.’

Man City midfielder Foden already has a two-year-old son and a partner Rebecca Cooke, and United youngster Greenwood only broke up with his girlfriend this year.

Both players have now been dropped from Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of England’s game against Denmark on Tuesday.

They did not train with the England team in Iceland’s capital Reykjavik on Monday.
