Harry Maguire to snub Man United and join City in £80m deal

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is set to seal a world-record £80million transfer to Manchester City this week.

Maguire is ready to join City ahead of rivals Manchester United in a world-record transfer for a defender, which is expected to top the £75million Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk for.

City are prepared to pay the England centre-back a whopping £280,000-a-week to leave Leicester and move to City.

The 26-year-old signed a new five-year contract with Leicester last September when United failed to prise him from the King Power Stadium and he was not looking to quit the club.

But he has told friends that the offer from City is too good to reject and Pep Guardiola believes he can land him in a club-record deal ahead of Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Leicester City will reluctantly cash in on Harry Maguire and believe the rival interest from City and United will help them push up their asking price.

Guardiola sees Maguire as the perfect successor to Vincent Kompany, who left City at the end of the campaign to return to Belgium to take over as player-manager at Anderlecht.

Maguire is ambitious and feels City will give him the opportunity to win trophies and fulfil his personal ambition of playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Guardiola pounced after United’s failure to reach an agreement with Leicester over a fee and United were not willing to meet the club’s £80m asking price.

Maguire will launch City’s summer of spending and they are also set to land Rodri from Atletico Madrid after agreeing to pay the Spaniard’s £62.5million release clause.

Rodri is expected to complete his transfer after July 1 when his escape clause at Atletico Madrid becomes active for the transfer window.
