However, Estevao Willian struck in the 95th minute to clinch a 2-1 win for the hosts at Stamford Bridge.
Marc Cucurella delivered an outstanding display, neutralizing Mohamed Salah and later assisting the decisive goal for Estevao.
Terry expressed his admiration for both Estevao and Cucurella, sharing praise for them via social media after the clash in west London.
‘Love him (Estevao) already,’ Terry posted on his Instagram story along with a photo of the Brazilian teenager.
Terry added: ‘Also, what a ball from Marc Cucurella.’
Another former Chelsea forward, Daniel Sturridge, also commended Estevao’s performance.
‘Those are the goals that make a player’s career,’ Sturridge told Sky Sports. ‘As a winger, your job is to be at the back post and get those tap-ins.
‘Estevao’s timing and connection is brilliant. At his age, to have the awareness to do that is fantastic.’
Estevao joined Chelsea this summer from Palmeiras, with the club paying an initial £29m for the teenager.
Additional clauses linked to performance could raise the total value of the transfer to approximately £51m.
Last month, Estevao acknowledged his surprise at the number of chances he’s received so early in his Chelsea career.
‘It’s happening very quickly, and I’m already getting a lot of opportunities there,’ Estevao told Globo Esporte.
‘More than I even expected at Chelsea. But I think it’s the result of the hard work and dedication I’ve maintained in training.
‘[Enzo] Maresca has a lot of confidence in me to play, even arriving in a new league, in a new country. I try to repay that on the field by giving my all.’
After netting his first Premier League goal in the win over Liverpool, Estevao shared his emotions on social media.
‘First of all, I want to thank God for everything he’s been doing in my life.
‘I feel truly fulfilled after scoring my first Premier League goal on an incredible night alongside our fans! It’s hard to describe this moment… I’ll keep working to improve every day!’
