Harry Kane names player he wants Gareth Southgate to take to Euro 2024

England captain Harry Kane has advocated for Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate to include Cole Palmer in the Euro 2024 squad.

Palmer’s meteoric rise continued as he scored his first England goal in the 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.

Despite Bosnia frustrating the Euro 2024 hopefuls for an hour, Chelsea playmaker Palmer broke the deadlock by slotting home a penalty at a sold-out St James’ Park.

In the same match, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kane also found the net, securing England’s win in their penultimate warm-up game ahead of Euro 2024, which kicks off on June 14.

Palmer, who had a sensational first season at Chelsea, scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists in 39 games, was included in England’s provisional 33-man squad.

His outstanding form earned him the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, and Kane expressed his delight at having Palmer as part of the England squad for the Euros.

Southgate is set to announce the final 26-man Euro 2024 squad on Saturday, shortly after the Three Lions face Iceland in their last warm-up match at Wembley.

When asked about Palmer’s form after England’s win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bayern Munich striker Kane told Channel 4: ‘He’s had an unbelievable season.

‘It’s never easy moving club as well so for him to do what he’s done in his first season at Chelsea, it’s a credit to him.

‘We’re very happy to have him, I’m delighted he got his goal there. Of course we’re going to need all our players to chip in with goals throughout this tournament so the more people feeling good the better.’

While Palmer scored his first England goal at St James’ Park, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze was described as the team’s ‘bright spark’ by pundit Joe Cole.

Rating Palmer and Eze’s displays, Southgate said: ‘I thought they both played with the freedom.

‘Ebere has got lovely movement to go past players, he’s got power. I thought Cole linked the game well for us.

‘A couple of times, Cole was being too precise and if he got his shots away earlier maybe he could’ve got a couple.’

On England’s win as a whole, Southgate said: ‘They were an opponent that were dogged, determined.

‘Physically, it was a good workout but in the end, a good performance. The scoreline reflected the performance.’

England travel to Germany for the Euros after their final warm-up match Iceland. The Three Lions begin their Euro 2024 campaign on June 16 against Serbia.
