Bayern Munich, having unsuccessfully tried to retain Thomas Tuchel, chose Kompany as an unexpected replacement to succeed the ex-Chelsea coach.
Kompany’s appointment at 38 years old has sparked debate due to his brief and challenging tenure in the Premier League, which saw Burnley relegated under his management.
While Kompany will primarily oversee on-field activities, he is expected to contribute to Bayern’s transfer dealings this summer. Reports suggest he’s monitoring a former colleague, as per the Mirror.
Zinchenko, who signed with Arsenal almost two years ago, quickly became a fan favorite, excelling in a unique left-back position that propelled the Gunners into championship contention.
However, as rivals adapted to Mikel Arteta’s strategies, Zinchenko’s performance significantly declined last season, with his defensive vulnerabilities becoming apparent.
By the end of the previous season, the ex-Manchester City player was considered by some to be behind Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior in the left-back pecking order at Arsenal.
‘Proud of the team and happy to be one of you Gunners,’ the Ukrainian wrote in a message to Arsenal supporters on Instagram this month, acknowledging his own personal dip.
‘The club’s season is over now and unfortunately we didn’t get what we wanted but I am sure this club is on the right way to achieve everything.
‘Personally I completely understand that it wasn’t my best season so far and I promise first of all to all fans and doubters that I’ll be back much stronger.
‘Thank you so much for your massive support and see you very soon. #COYG.’
This summer, Arsenal’s search for left-backs has seen them connected with several prospects, including Feyernoord’s Quilindschy Hartman, who is reportedly high on their list of potential acquisitions.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich is also expected to pursue a new left-back due to the ongoing speculation about Alphonso Davies’ tenure with the club.
The Canadian star has not committed to a new deal, and with talks at an impasse, Real Madrid has shown considerable interest in securing his services.
