Bayer Leverkusen respond to Chelsea’s transfer move for Kai Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller says they have not given up hope of keeping Kai Havertz after Chelsea reportedly opened talks to sign the player.

Acording to reports on Tuesday, the blues have begun talks with Leverkusen over a possible deal for the 20-year-old this summer window.

Havertz is widely seen as one of the best young midfielders in Europe and has attracted huge interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Spanish teams Madrid and Barcelona.

However, when asked about Havertz’s situation on Tuesday, Voller said that Leverkusen are ‘in a good position’ and predicted that rumours will increase ‘if he plays like this now’.

‘We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,’ Voller told ARD. We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities.

‘He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season.’

Kai Havertz was left out of Leverkusen’s team on Tuesday as they sealed a 3-0 victory over FC Saarbruecken in the DFB Pokal.

The midfielder has been a key part of Leverkusen’s campaign with 15 goals and eight assists in 38 matches in all competitions.

Bayer Leverkusen have been holding out for a €100 million (£89m) transfer fee for any team who is interested in the signing of Havertz.
