Victor Lindelof has welcomed the possible arrival of Leicester City defender Harry Maguire at Manchester United.
The Red Devils have made England defender Maguire their top target this summer window and are ready to pay a world-record £80million to sign him.
Maguire’s arrival at United could spell bad news for a number of the club’s current centre-backs but Lindelof is not concerned and says he ‘loves’ the competition that new signings will bring.
‘I like the competition,’ Lindelof told ESPN FC when asked about Manchester United’s pursuit of Harry Maguire. ‘I love it, actually.
‘I think it’s great for a club to have that competition. If you have good players in your position you have to work hard every day, especially in training, and that helps a team to go to the next level as well.
‘For me it’s perfect. I like it. I think everyone at this club wants to be at the highest level.
‘I’m very good friends with them all. In training we compete and then off the pitch we are friends. That’s how it should be.’
Lindelof is one of a number of players at Manchester United who have been linked with moves this summer window and Barcelona were said to be impressed by his performances last campaign.
But unlike Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, Lindelof has rubbished speculation he could exit the club during the summer window.
‘I’m not the kind of person who thinks about that,’ he added. ‘I’m here, I’m very happy here. That’s my focus. Manchester United is my club. I represent this club with great honour.’
Lindelof, who arrived at United from Benfica in 2017, played 40 matches for United last campaign and was one of the club’s most consistent players.
