Despite the high-profile signings, Liverpool’s transfer window ended on a sour note after the proposed move for Marc Guehi to Anfield fell through.
Crystal Palace withdrew from the deal after being unable to secure a suitable successor for their captain.
Whether Liverpool will revisit their pursuit of Guehi later this season remains uncertain.
Guehi had been identified as a possible successor to Ibrahima Konate, who continues to be strongly linked with a departure from Anfield.
At present, Konate, aged 26, is expected to exit Liverpool at the conclusion of the 25/26 season, with his current deal set to run out.
Football Insider recently reported that the Frenchman is nearing a deal with La Liga giants Madrid.
But this week, Foot Mercato revealed that current Bayern star Dayot Upamecano has ‘verbally agreed’ to join Madrid.
Consequently, Bayern have identified Konate as a possible successor to Upamecano.
As per German news outlet BILD, Konate ‘is an option for Bayern if Upamecano leaves the club’ and the Bavarians have already initiated contact with the defender’s representatives.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are working to persuade the centre-back to commit to a new contract on Merseyside.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konate has featured in 147 appearances for the Reds, netting six goals.
His trophy haul includes the Premier League, two League Cups, and several other honors.
Should he depart this summer, the Frenchman would be a major loss for Liverpool, having built a strong defensive pairing with club captain Virgil van Dijk.
Konate and Liverpool are set to return to Premier League duty on Sunday afternoon when they face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
