Romelu Lukaku asserts that his chance to make an impression in England once more lies in the hands of Chelsea.

Returning to London, the Belgian witnessed his national team secure a draw against England, with Jude Bellingham’s stoppage-time equalizer standing out.

Despite England taking the lead twice through Youri Tielemans, Lukaku showcased his prowess on English turf, providing a remarkable assist by curling a cross with the outside of his boot for Tielemans to score unchallenged.

While still part of Chelsea’s squad, Lukaku finds himself on loan in Italy for the second consecutive season, currently making waves at Roma. His future with the Blues remains uncertain.

He was asked if he had renewed motivation to impress when he returns to Stamford Bridge but simply said: “You’ll have to ask Chelsea”.

Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge for a second stint in 2021, joining from Inter Milan for a club-record fee at the time.

Despite an initially promising start, he soon encountered difficulties and found himself not guaranteed a spot in the starting lineup. He eventually returned to Inter Milan last season and is currently playing in Rome this year.

During the summer, he found himself in a state of uncertainty as he sought a loan move elsewhere. Alongside several other players, Lukaku trained away from the Chelsea first team at Cobham before securing a temporary transfer.

Lukaku has since hinted that the full truth about his treatment at Chelsea has yet to be revealed but believes it will eventually come to light.

He said in October: “You know that I don’t like to beat around the bush. I will speak in time, but if I really said how it all went last summer everyone would be shocked.

“There were moments when I really could explode, five years ago I probably would have done that too. Now I have concentrated on what I can do best – playing football.”

He added: “During the summer I saw what people said about me and I trained to be there the day I had to perform. One day I will tell the truth. The others will also have to assume it at that time.”
