Mikel Arteta identifies Arsenal’s first summer transfer

Arsenal has shown a strong interest in Morgan Gibbs-White, the standout midfielder from Nottingham Forest, and may consider a bid for him in the upcoming summer transfer period.

Following a breach of the Premier League’s financial regulations, resulting in a four-point penalty, Forest might be compelled to sell some of their key players.

The club surpassed the permitted annual loss limit by £34.5 million, exceeding the £61 million threshold, which could lead Arsenal to leverage Forest’s financial woes.

Gibbs-White, who transferred to Forest from Wolves in 2022 for an impressive fee of £42.5 million, has since become a pivotal figure for the team.

His performance this season, contributing to nine goals in various competitions, has potentially earned him a spot on Mikel Arteta’s list of desired transfers.

According to The Daily Star, Arteta is looking to strengthen his midfield after this season ends. Emile Smith Rowe, who rose to prominence in late 2020, has not progressed as expected and might be offloaded to finance the acquisition of a new midfielder.

Gibbs-White’s previous praise for Arsenal’s leading forward, Bukayo Saka, has only intensified speculation about his possible move to the Emirates Stadium.

“Bukayo [Saka] for me is at the minute one of the best players in the world,” Gibbs-White told Premier League media.

“I just think with Bukayo, he doesn’t go out of his comfort zone, he knows what he’s good at. He’s mastered it and it works every time, cut inside on your left, boom, goal, he must practice it every single day in training.”

Arsenal’s attention is now sharply focused on a decisive push for the Premier League and Champions League titles as the club season resumes post-international break.

The Gunners face a monumental clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday. A victory would significantly bolster Arteta’s squad’s chances of clinching their first league title in twenty years.

Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White must remain undistracted by the speculated interest from Arsenal, especially with Nottingham Forest currently in a precarious 18th position. The priority for Forest is securing their Premier League status.
