The England left back has called for the Premier League season to be voided
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has risked the wrath of Liverpool supporters by saying the Premier League season should be voided if it cannot be finished, denying the Reds their first title in 30 years.
The season has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, with runaway league leaders Liverpool having been just two victories away from securing the title.
There are 92 games left to play – with suggestions of a World Cup-style ‘festival of football’ to finish them all over a short period of time in June – but those plans appear optimistic with the country still ongoing.
Liverpool looked certain to claim the title – and in record-breaking fashion – but Shaw says this campaign should be considered null and void if it’s not completed.

Asked if Liverpool should be awarded the title, Shaw said during a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition: ‘Scrap it and start again. Start it again yeah. It’s gotta be you know. If we can’t carry it on it’s got to be void.’
Shaw was taking on Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who diplomatically side-stepped the question but burst out laughing at Shaw’s response, and the United full back later said he could never play as Liverpool on FIFA.
Premier League bosses are in talks with the government over bringing back football behind-closed-doors in June, though Luke Shaw also seems reluctant to do that.
He continued: ‘Fans are so important. You realise it even more [now]. I think the sport is for fans really, do you know what I mean? I think if you don’t have fans, and you don’t play in front of fans, it just doesn’t feel right.
‘Especially on matchday the fans are always amazing and always help the team. Whether it’s home or even away, our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they’re always there with us.’
Loftus-Cheek added: ‘The fans are what make football what it is.
‘You saw a few games at the end of the season – well, not the end of the season, but recently – without the fans and it wasn’t the same, it was so far off what football feels like when fans are screaming, cheering.’
