Man Utd finally make decision on sacking Erik ten Hag before FA Cup final

Manchester United will retain Erik ten Hag as their manager until the end of the season, despite mounting pressure on the Dutchman following Sunday’s chaotic FA Cup match against Coventry City.

In that game, United initially held a 3-0 lead against the Championship side, with goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes.

However, a dramatic turnaround allowed Coventry to score three goals in just 25 minutes, leading to extra time. Coventry even hit the bar and had a potential winner denied after a VAR check.

Despite these struggles, Manchester United secured their place in next month’s FA Cup final against Manchester City by winning 4-2 on penalties.

Unfortunately, United’s recent pattern of collapsing under pressure has significantly impacted their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

They’ve surrendered leads late in matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, and Brentford.

While pundits like Jamie Carragher and Alan Shearer have effectively called for ten Hag’s departure, The Guardian reports that his job is safe for now.

There are no plans to part ways with the former Ajax boss before the FA Cup final showdown against City on May 25.

Despite the horror of Sunday’s performance, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the INEOS chief, will continue to support ten Hag for the remainder of the season .

Ratcliffe and the United leadership have acknowledged the significant number of injuries the club has faced as a contributing factor to their disappointing season.

However, it remains uncertain whether Ratcliffe will continue in his role beyond the summer. Ten Hag, who signed a three-year contract upon his arrival in Manchester in 2022, will enter the final year of his deal this summer.

There’s been speculation linking England manager Gareth Southgate to the position if United and Ten Hag part ways, with reports from Germany suggesting that INEOS has already contacted Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel, who will depart from Bayern Munich at the end of the current season, is reportedly being strongly considered for the role at Old Trafford. Despite interest from Barcelona, it’s believed that Tuchel’s preference is to return to the Premier League.
