Man Utd finally ‘make contact’ with Thomas Tuchel over replacing Ten Hag

Recent developments suggest that Manchester United has initiated discussions with Thomas Tuchel regarding the potential for him to take over the reins from Erik ten Hag as head coach.

These speculations from Germany have surfaced in the wake of United’s hard-fought FA Cup semi-final triumph against Coventry City.

Tuchel, who is set to depart from Bayern Munich when the season concludes, reportedly harbors aspirations of managing United.

Earlier in January, it was disclosed that United had identified Tuchel as a prospective successor to Ten Hag.

Current reports indicate that United has reached out to Tuchel, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, one of the club’s minority owners, holds the ex-Chelsea manager in high regard.

Ratcliffe is said to have inquired about Tuchel’s willingness to commit to the club for the upcoming season, should United opt to sever ties with Ten Hag.

Following United’s penalty shootout victory over Coventry, which secured their place in the FA Cup final, pundit Jamie Carragher suggested that Ten Hag’s tenure might be nearing its end.

‘I think that result has just cost Erik ten Hag his job,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports. ‘I don’t see how he stays, I really don’t.

‘It’s just poor performance after poor performance. That dressing room is probably the most embarrassed dressing room from a team that has just won a big game.

‘You can’t even celebrate that win. Maybe that can somehow win the final but I just don’t see any progress. This is somebody’s job we’re talking about but I just don’t see how they [the owners] can look at the situation and be positive about it. I don’t see it.’

Reflecting on his experiences earlier in January, Thomas Tuchel expressed a sense of greater recognition during his tenure in England compared to his time in Germany.

As the head coach of Chelsea from 2021 to 2022, Tuchel steered the team to victory in the Champions League, Club World Cup, and Super Cup.

His departure from Chelsea came under contentious conditions, with the club’s executives, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, opting to bring in Graham Potter as his successor.
