Following an equaliser from Colombia striker Luis Suarez via a penalty, Hojlund sealed the win with a goal 11 minutes from time.
The Danish forward linked up with former Manchester City playmaker De Bruyne again, heading in a cross after beating Sporting keeper Rui Silva to the ball.
Now with four goals across all competitions for Napoli, Hojlund has made an immediate impact since arriving on loan from United.
He left Old Trafford on a temporary deal that includes a purchase clause, having been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Ruben Amorim.
Hojlund’s European form continues to reflect his previous success at United, where he scored six times in the Europa League, though his Premier League output remained limited.
He managed just four goals in England’s top division last season, but has joined a confident Napoli side fresh off a title-winning campaign.
Clearly thriving in Italy, the 22-year-old shared his joy in a post-match Instagram update.
Posting a celebratory photo, he captioned it: “‘Hojlund scores twice in the Champions League after two assists from Kevin De Bruyne’ was not on my 2025 bingo card.”

One United supporter replied: “Rasmus was never the problem. He never had proper service.”
Another commented: “Not surprised that a striker is scoring goals when a team actually passes the ball to their striker.”
A third added: “I’m pleased for him. Mistreated and misused by us. Well done lad.”
After the match, Hojlund praised De Bruyne and described it as ‘very special’ to play alongside him under Antonio Conte.
“I’m happy to play for Napoli in the Champions League, because I love to score in Europe,” he told Stan Sport AU.
“To play with a player like Kevin, it’s very special. I’ve played with a lot of incredible players in Manchester United as well, but Kevin is an exceptional talent.
“He’s won so much, and he’s a legend of the game. For me, it’s about finding the spaces and he’ll put the ball in the spaces for me to run on to.”
