Man Utd confirm date for Kim-min Jae transfer after “goodbyes said” to Napoli

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Napoli’s Kim Min-jae when his release clause becomes active at the start of July, according to reports.

Kim has been linked with a summer transfer to Old Trafford for months despite only heading to Naples last year.

The South Korean international enjoyed a superb campaign as he starred in their Serie A title-winning season, but his contract has a release clause which removes any negotiation process.

The defender has a release clause in his contract, said to be in the region of £43m, which eases the signing process for United. But this clause will only be active between 1-15 July, meaning there is a short window available to complete the deal.

It is reported in Naples-based media outlet Il Mattino that Napoli are planning on Kim’s move to Man United to be completed on 1 July.

In addition, they are taking the transfer as already done and will sign Slovak defender David Hancko from Feyenoord as his replacement.

Kim had a remarkable campaign for Napoli and while the central defence is not seen as top of United’s summer priority list, his availability for such clause makes the deal a possibility.

According to CalcioNapoli24 last week, Kim said his goodbyes to Napoli’s fans and teammates in their last Serie A game of the campaign – a win over Sampdoria.

The same report also claims that Napoli were keen to keep the South Korean player but cannot compete with the Red Devils’ financial package.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims insiders at Napoli are ‘taking it for granted’ Kim will be at Old Trafford in the summer, while Corriere dello Sport went further – claiming that the defender will be a United star next season.
