Man Utd to use Harry Maguire in player plus cash deal for Premier League star

Manchester United are considering leveraging Harry Maguire in a potential player-plus-cash exchange to secure a coveted Premier League talent targeted by their competitors.

The club is gearing up for an eventful summer following the conclusion of INEOS’ minority takeover.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS chief, has affirmed plans for a comprehensive evaluation of the team, including an assessment of Erik ten Hag’s squad, in preparation for the upcoming transfer window.

This evaluation aims to pinpoint areas for enhancement, with bolstering the central midfield identified as a primary objective.

Among the players on United’s radar is West Ham standout Lucas Paqueta, with discussions including the possibility of involving Maguire in the transaction to acquire him.

West Ham’s previous attempt to acquire Maguire for £30 million faltered last summer, and with the defender’s contract dwindling to its final year, the club anticipates his potential departure for a reduced fee, speculated to be around £15 million.

Although United have the option to extend Maguire’s contract, they may opt to part ways with him to facilitate new signings.

A player-plus-cash deal involving Maguire and Paqueta could benefit both clubs while thwarting Manchester City’s pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder.

Manchester City’s interest in Paqueta was evident last summer, but complications arose due to a betting inquiry involving the player, leading to West Ham’s rejection of City’s offers.

However, reports suggest that City will reignite their efforts this summer, viewing Paqueta as an ideal replacement for Bernardo Silva.

Silva, who committed to a new contract with the Premier League champions last year, reportedly has a release clause in his agreement.

With Paqueta’s impressive performance tally this season, boasting seven goals and six assists across all competitions, he emerges as a desirable addition for either Manchester club.
