Man Utd respond to Inter Milan’s offer to swap Wan-Bissaka for Netherlands defender

Manchester United consider Aaron Wan-Bissaka a valuable asset for the team’s future and has turned down Inter Milan’s proposal to exchange the right-back for Denzel Dumfries.

Inter Milan is seeking financial balance to comply with Serie A’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Despite securing a spot in Simone Inzaghi’s side this season, Dumfries, aged 27, may be departing from the San Siro.

With Dumfries’ contract expiring in 2025 and negotiations for a new deal stalled, especially due to the Dutchman’s demand for £80,000-a-week wages, Inter has been contemplating the possibility of selling the Netherlands full-back in recent weeks.

As reported by The Sun, Inter Milan proposed a swap deal, offering Dumfries for Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United. Nonetheless, Erik ten Hag is resolute in retaining the former Crystal Palace player, promptly rejecting the Italian offer.

In confirmation earlier this month, Ten Hag stated that Manchester United had exercised an option in Wan-Bissaka’s contract, securing the 26-year-old’s commitment to the club until 2025.

‘We triggered the options on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri,’ the United head coach told reporters.

‘We are talking with Raphael Varane and with Anthony Martial. I think that is an internal discussion between the club and the players.’

Wan-Bissaka, who completed a £45 million transfer to Manchester United in 2019, has played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Ten Hag, facing challenges in meeting the expectations set by his substantial price tag during his four-and-a-half-year tenure in the north-west.

At the beginning of this season, Wan-Bissaka was sidelined for 10 games at United due to a lingering hamstring injury. However, the former England Under-21 international has since made a comeback, starting the club’s last five matches across all competitions.

Recent reports suggested a potential surplus of requirements for Wan-Bissaka at United, as the club aims to revamp their defense in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, it now appears that the defender’s future has been clarified.

United persist in their interest in Sacha Boey to provide competition for Wan-Bissaka at right-back. However, Galatasaray is not inclined to let go of the Frenchman before the January deadline.

United’s focus lies on bolstering their attacking options, given that summer signing Rasmus Hojlund has only managed two goals in 16 top-flight appearances since his arrival from Atalanta.

Despite the agent’s denial of reports that Antony Martial has been isolated in training, uncertainty surrounds the forward’s future.

‘What is said about him is completely false. He was not excluded from the group and he has no problem with [Erik ten Hag],’ Phillipe Lamboley told Sky Sports.

‘Anthony has been in Manchester for nine seasons and if he was not a great professional then he would not have been at the club for so long.

‘He is simply going to undergo a small operation on his adductors, which he should have done for a while and which did not allow him to be 100 per cent, so he will do it now.’
