Manchester United are reportedly looking to “offload” Rasmus Hojlund as two major European clubs have shown “interest” in the forward.
Hojlund, 21, joined United from Atalanta in August 2023, but his disappointing tally of just 23 goals in 71 games has failed to justify his reported £64m transfer fee.
Despite his struggles, with only two goals in 18 Premier League games this season, Ruben Amorim has continued to include the Dane in his plans. ..Continue Reading
On Sunday, Amorim, 39, included Hojlund in his starting lineup for the 1-0 Premier League victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
However, after an underwhelming performance, the 21-year-old was substituted for Joshua Zirkzee in the 58th minute.
Amorim acknowledged a “disconnect” between the Danish striker and his United teammates.
“He works really hard and you can see sometimes without training there is a disconnection,” Amorim said. “We can explain but without training sometimes it goes away when it should be near. Sometimes he goes near when he should make a run.
“We don’t have time to create that connection, we don’t train these kind of things, we just talk about these things and he has a lot to improve like the teammates. Sometimes you have a good game, and another day you cannot have a good performance.
“The important thing is I see every day he wants (it) really badly, he wants to train a little bit more at the end of training and that is the best thing to improve.
“But as a footballer – and he is a young guy – sometimes you have to understand that you have a bad game but you have to continue to go to the next.”
Despite Amorim’s relatively balanced assessment of Hojlund’s performance, reports indicate that his time at Manchester United might be coming to an end.
According to ESPN, the Red Devils are “prepared to offload” Hojlund if they receive a “suitable offer” in either the January or summer transfer window.
The report also suggests that AC Milan and Juventus have shown “limited” interest, while there is additional “interest” from the German Bundesliga as the window’s final week approaches.
Hojlund is under contract with United until June 2028 and is valued at £50.4m by Transfermarkt.
