Throughout his illustrious career in European football, Messi amassed numerous trophies and claimed the prestigious Ballon d’Or award eight times.
Now 37, he currently plays for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, a team co-owned by former England and Manchester United star David Beckham.
Since his move to Miami, Messi has reunited with his former Barcelona teammates Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
Despite his incredible achievements, Messi never played in the English league, a fact that has left many fans across the country disappointed.
However, in the past, Messi has shared his opinion on the three best players in the Premier League during his time.
Back in 2012, he highlighted Sergio Agüero, Wayne Rooney, and Robin van Persie as the league’s standout performers.
“There are several quality players in the Premier League like Kun Aguero, who is my friend. I really like how he plays,” he revealed in an old interview.
“Rooney [and] Van Persie are playing really well – they are great players.”
Aguero, who was Messi’s international teammate, had a legendary career at Manchester City and remains the club’s all-time leading goal scorer with 260 goals.
During his decade-long spell at the Etihad, he secured an impressive five Premier League titles.
Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, also recognized Rooney and Van Persie, both of whom made their mark at Old Trafford.
Like Aguero, Rooney claimed five league titles with Manchester United and netted 253 goals for the club.
Van Persie, though winning just one league title, was a prolific goal scorer in the Premier League, tallying 96 league goals for Arsenal and 48 for United.
