Former United players Fred and Sofyan Amrabat are currently on Fenerbahce’s roster.
Now, it’s reported that Mourinho is attempting to convince Ronaldo, one of United’s all-time greats, to join him at Fenerbahce.
According to reports, Mourinho has already reached out to Ronaldo, exploring whether the 39-year-old striker would consider a return to Europe.
Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia is set to expire in June, and with talks over a contract renewal reportedly stalled, it’s possible he could seek a move this summer.
Speaking to him on the phone, the Fenerbahce head coach allegedly asked: “Are you happy there? There is talk that you want to leave.
“If you leave, would you like to come to Fenerbahce?”
In addition to Mourinho’s personal attempts to facilitate the transfer, Fenerbahce’s Director of Football, Mario Branco, has reportedly begun discussions with Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes.
However, it is said that a move to Fenerbahce is unlikely, with a transfer to another club in the Saudi Pro League appearing to be a more probable option.
If Ronaldo moves to another Saudi team, Al Hilal, a rival of Al Nassr, seems to be the most likely destination.
Earlier reports this month suggested that manager Jorge Jesus is interested in signing Ronaldo to replace Neymar Jr., who has struggled with multiple injuries since joining Al Hilal in August last year.
There are even reports indicating that Neymar’s £130 million contract could be terminated due to his ongoing fitness issues.
