Thomas Muller sends message to Arsenal after Champions League draw

Thomas Muller is eagerly anticipating Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League match against Arsenal, potentially leading to a reunion with Kai Havertz.

Arsenal’s advancement to the quarterfinals marks their first in 14 years, secured with a tense penalty shootout victory over Porto.

Bayern Munich’s journey to this stage was relatively smoother, although they had to overturn a first-leg deficit to defeat Lazio on aggregate.

Muller, having been part of the Bayern team that decisively defeated Arsenal 10-2 across two legs in 2017, anticipates a more challenging encounter this time.

‘It’s Arsenal,’ said the veteran forward on X. ‘Kai Havertz my friend I am waiting for you.

‘It’s a nice draw, two very good teams, two very good cities, two very good stadiums. It will be tough but I’m always positive. See you Gunners!’

He added: ‘Asenal is a team that will give us two exciting games. They are currently in a good form and have a good momentum. It will be tough. But with the second leg in Munich we have a good chance of progressing.

While Bayern finds themselves trailing the Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen by a significant 10 points, Arsenal currently occupies the top spot in the English table. This fact was echoed by Thomas Muller’s teammate, Manuel Neuer.

He said: ‘Arsenal are a very strong team, they have a very good spirit. It’s not for nothing that they are currently top of the Premier League.

‘It will be two tough games and we have to show everything we can to progress. It will be an exciting tie, we are looking forward to the task and are happy that we can play these games.’

The upcoming away leg will mark a homecoming for two former Tottenham players, Eric Dier and Harry Kane, as they return to north London.

‘It is of course special for me to return to England for a game so quickly after my arrival at FC Bayern – and then to North London of all places,’ said Dier, who joined his current club on loan in January.

‘It is a great opportunity for us to show our quality at the highest level. Arsenal have a young team that is performing very well.’
