Michael Owen makes prediction for who will win the Premier League this season

Michael Owen, a former Liverpool player, is rooting for the Reds to secure the Premier League title. However, he anticipates that Manchester City will edge out both Liverpool and Arsenal in the race for the championship.

With only ten matches left, a mere point divides the top three contenders: Arsenal leads, followed closely by Liverpool, and Manchester City in third place.

Arsenal’s impressive streak of eight consecutive Premier League victories since the onset of 2024 has propelled them to the summit of the league standings for the first time since December. This ascent was aided by a gripping 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield.

The Gunners are vying for their first league title in two decades, having dominated the leaderboard for the majority of the previous season, only to finish second to Manchester City, who have claimed the English championship in five of the past six seasons.

Liverpool, the sole squad to disrupt Pep Guardiola’s reign by winning the title during the disrupted 2019-20 Covid season, has been in dazzling form and is eager to commemorate Jurgen Klopp’s final year at Anfield with another league triumph.

Manchester City, currently in third, is well-positioned to surpass Mikel Arteta’s team and thwart Arsenal’s title aspirations in their upcoming encounter at the Etihad Stadium post-international break.

Owen, whose career began at Anfield, is hopeful for a Liverpool victory and believes they have the most favorable remaining fixtures compared to their title rivals.

Nonetheless, the ex-England forward suspects that Manchester City will ramp up their performance and maintain their grip on the Premier League crown as the season progresses.

‘My heart of course says Liverpool and I do think they have the easiest run-in,’ Owen said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show. ‘It would be an incredible story, too, with it being Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

‘But I do think Man City are the best team in the world at the moment and they’ve proven that. I can see them going into overdrive, I think they’ve got gears left.

‘Whereas Arsenal and Liverpool might be playing at their absolute peak at the moment, I think we might Man City go at this part of the season. My head says Manchester City.’

As Arsenal and Manchester City go head-to-head in their quest for the title, Liverpool will re-enter the fray with a match against Brighton on March 31.
