Pjanic & Samuel Umtiti reject Barcelona contract cancellations

Barcelona on Umtiti & Pjanic

Barcelona players Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic have reportedly turned down the club’s offer to cancel their contracts.

The Spanish giants are aiming to reduce the club’s bloated wage bill ahead of the 2021/22 La Liga campaign but they are currently experiencing issues in offloading squad players.

As a result, the board have sanctioned the cancellation of contracts, to remove the burden of years of additional wages, with Matheus Fernandes already leaving the Camp Nou this month.

However, according to reports from Marca, they are now looking to agree similar severance packages with a number of senior players as part of a major cost cutting project.

But, with Umtiti and Pjanic who currently have two and three years left on their respective contracts, the duo have chosen to reject the offer of a cancellation.

However, Umtiti is open to leaving the club, if an acceptable offer comes in for him ahead of the new season, with Barca willing to accept offers in the region of €15m for the player.

Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Depay have all arrived on free transfers at the club, while Emerson Royal also joined the club from Real Betis.
