Paul Pogba hobbles out of France training with injury

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has picked up a suspected thigh injury while away on international duty with France.

Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard was the only other outfield player to take part in France’s training session at their Clairefontaine training camp today.

Most other members of France’s 23-man squad are due to arrive this evening, with Didier Deschamps’ side preparing to continue their qualifying campaign for Qatar 2022.

A short video shared by RMC Sport reveals Pogba taking a shot at goal and shouting in agony before clutching his right thigh.

The former Juventus player, United’s club-record signing, appeared in discomfort as he hobbled off France’s training pitches accompanied by team physio Franck Le Gall.

Deschamps’ side play host to Kazakhstan at the Parc des Prince on Saturday before travelling to Helsinki to take on Finland next Tuesday.

France remain unbeaten in Group D and have a three-point lead over second-placed Ukraine ahead of the double-header.

Pogba’s injury came just hours after his club team-mate, Marcus Rashford, withdrew from Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s World Cup qualifiers versus Albania and San Marino.

Rashford has been feeling unwell and England agreed it would be beneficial to let him work on his fitness back at Old Trafford rather than risking a further setback.

Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse has also been ruled out of England’s double-header due to an illness.

Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith Rowe has been called up for the first time in place of the duo and could make his senior debut against Albania this weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Mason Mount and Luke Shaw can return to full fitness in order to play a part at Wembley.

Mount’s arrival at St, George’s Park has been delayed due to his recent dental surgery, while Shaw is having to follow concussion protocol back at United after a collision with Rodri in the game against Man City.
