Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick says Erik Ten Hag is ‘one of the top coaches’ in the world, amid reports that the club want to speak to the Dutchman over a move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have started the process of appointing a long-term successor to Solskjaer and hope to speak to candidates in the coming weeks, with a view to making an announcement before the campaign finishes.
Mauricio Pochettino is a favoured option but Ajax head coach Ten Hag has plenty of admirers at Old Trafford, not least in Rangnick.

The German coach was asked about the reports this weekend before United’s trip to Man City today and though Rangnick says he’s not spoken to the club about Ten Hag, he rates him as one of the best in the world.
‘So far we haven’t at all spoken about that, nobody, not just [United football director] John Murtough but nobody else, we haven’t had that topic in the last weeks and months since I’m here,’ said Rangnick.
‘I know my opinion [of who should take the job] but so far we haven’t spoken about it so this is what I can tell you.
‘I don’t know him, to start with, as a person. Obviously, I see the development at Ajax since he’s been there, I know a little bit about his work when he was with Bayern Munich and that he is one of the top coaches in Europe that’s obvious but there are a few other top coaches.
‘As I said, we haven’t spoken about any new manager so far, therefore we also didn’t speak about him.’
However, United will be without Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane for today huge clash tlat the Etihad.
The Red Devils will be hoping to upset their rivals in order to build on West Ham’s defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
