Ralf Rangnick has been tasked with compiling a ‘dossier of shame’ for Manchester United’s incoming manager Erik ten Hag, according to reports.
Last week, the club confirmed that the Ajax head coach will take over from Rangnick as manager at the end of the campaign.
United have ended the season on a poor run of form with just two wins in their last eight Premier League matches, and they almost certain to miss out on Champions League football next season.
Rangnick already delivered an assessment of United’s current situation after their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, claiming that the team are six years behind Jurgen Klopp’s side and could need up to 10 signings this summer.
According to the Sunday Mirror, United’s board have asked Rangnick to submit a handover to Ten Hag and it’s believed that the German coach will not hold back in delivering his verdict.
The report claims that Rangnick has called United’s players ‘selfish, over-inflated, lacking quality and too powerful’, and says some members of the squad have ignored his instructions.
Rangnick has also told United’s board that some players are ‘not fit for purpose’ and believes Wan-Bissaka, who was a £50m signing in 2019, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Lindelof and Anthony Martial are not at the required level for the club.
Rangnick is reported to feel that United need to sign two high-energy midfielders, as well as a playmaker, and has urged them to avoid signing older players such as Edinson Cavani, who has started just six Premier League matches this season.
But, despite facing huge criticism for his performances this campaign, Rangnick believes captain Harry Maguire should not be written off when Ten Hag comes in this summer.
In a frank interview after United’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday, Scott McTominay conceded there are problems inside the dressing room at Old Trafford.
‘There are a whole load of problems in terms of players, staff and everything higher up,’ said McTominay.
‘But for us, when you get home and take a look in the mirror, you can’t be satisfied conceding three at Arsenal when we deserved to win the game.
‘We had a half-decent game today but the belief, so big in football, it’s just not there at the minute.
