Marcus Rashford involved in Sky Sports blunder after Aston Villa win

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford had to take the player of the match award himself after Sky Sports pundits forgot to give it to him on Thursday.

The England star was in good form as his team came from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-2 in Thursday’s Carabao Cup game. He’s now bagged eight goals this campaign, more than any other player at the club.

United had to dig deep to get the better of Unai Emery’s side on Thursday. Ollie Watkins put the visitors ahead, with Anthony Martial equalising, only for a Dalot own goal to restore Villa’s lead.

Rashford, however, drew the Red Devils level – with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay seeing their side through to the next round of the competition.

After the match, Rashford was interviewed by Sky Sports. But the presenters and pundits present forgot to give the England star his player of the match award, he was forced to take it himself.

Footage uploaded by Football Daily reveals him picking it up, with Peter Schmeichel and Mark Chapman surprised by the incident.

“You forgot to give him the trophy,” Schmeichel said. “So I did,” Chapman responded with a laugh. “As you can see there, he’s got the player of the match trophy.

“Well done Peter. The sponsors will be very pleased with you for pointing that out. “So many tables, I can’t concentrate.”

Speaking after the win against Villa, Rashford opened up on his fine form at United – while also saying he feels better on the left wing as opposed to up top or on the right.

“My aim is to get back to enjoying my football at the moment and scoring goals, so I can’t complain,” Rashford said.

“If you watch me play, when I’m on the left I make runs into that position [centre forward] so I try and end up near the goal, that’s where the goals are scored so that’s where I want to be.

“The more often I do, the more goals I’ll score. “I’d probably say I’m more comfortable on the wing. A lot of the games with my back to goal, I need to improve on that and I think I’m alright at bringing others into the game.

“But when I have to hold it, that’s something I need to work on.”
