Marcus Rashford targeting huge Man Utd match for his return from injury

Manchester United stiker Marcus Rashford has reportedly pencilled in the club’s huge game with Liverpool as a possible return date as he steps up his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Rashford had an operation on his long-term shoulder issue shortly after England’s Euro 2020 campaign came to an end and he was initially expected to miss up to three months of action while recuperating.

But, Rashford, working closely with the club’s medical staff, has made significant strides with his rehabilitation and was seen in light training at Carrington for the first time this month.

United will look to ease the player back steadily so as not to risk more injury, especially as they already have an embarrassment of riches up front in his absence thus far.

There are hopes Solskjaer could call upon Rashford for United’s games with Leicester City and Atalanta after the next international break and he will be chomping at the bit to be involved again.

According to The Daily Mirror, the England star’s key target is the club’s highly-anticipated clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 24.

When fit and available, Rashford will add another dimension to the club’s attack, with Solskjaer also boasting players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Cavani.

When quizzed about an update on Alex Telles and Rashford ahead of United’s Carabao Cup defeat against West Ham, Solskjaer said: ‘Yeah it’s going well. They’ve worked really hard, both of them.

‘Alex is a bit further on than Marcus. ‘I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break but Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well.’

After their midweek elimination in the EFL Cup, United will be desperate to return to winning ways as they prepare to play against Aston Villa.
