Marcus Rashford breaks rank to condemn European Super League plans

Marcus Rashford took a clear swipe at Manchester United’s plans to join the European Super League by reminding the Glazer family that ‘football is nothing without fans’.

The England star joins his team-mate Bruno Fernandes in coming out against the proposal for the Red devils and five other Premier League teams to join the European Super League.

United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool would all be permanent members in the breakaway Champions League competition.

The other 14 Premier League teams met today to discuss their options for dealing with the ‘Big Six’s plans to join the Super league and they’re considering expelling them from the domestic league.

The proposal has been met with huge condemnation and Rashford tweeted a famous Sir Matt Busby quote today – which is being used as a banner at Old Trafford in the absence of fans – to show his unhappiness.

Although, there is now pressure on the Premier League’s big six to back away from the plans, with FIFA suggesting they could block any Super League players from participating in international competitions.

The sides that have agreed to take part will make around £250m just from accepting the proposal, with American investment bank JP Morgan funding the competition.

But, Premier League teams are angry as that would give the so-called Big Six a huge financial advantage if they were to remain in their leagues.
