Marcus Rashford gives update on when he will return for Man Utd

Marcus Rashford could return to full training with Manchester United this weekend as he closes in on a long-awaited return after his shoulder surgery over the summer.

The England star had been struggling with the problem throughout last campaign but had held off on going under the knife so he could play in the European Championships, though only played a minor role for Gareth Southgate’s side.

After a long lay-off, he has been progressing in recent weeks and is now on the verge of being given medical clearance to resume full training with the rest of the United team.

Giving an update on his rehabilitation, Rashford tweeted: ‘Happy Monday. I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation. All being well, I will get the green [light] to join in with contact training again.’

The Red devils take on Everton on Saturday, a game which will come too soon for Rashford, but the international break gives him the ideal window to build up his fitness.

The match against Leicester City on October 16 may be targeted as a return date for the striker, or the following midweek Champions League game at home to Atalanta.

Rashford was seen on the Carrington training pitches with the rest of the team last week, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stressed the need to ease him back slowly and not take risks.

Asked about both the player and left-back Alex Telles, he said: ‘Yeah it’s going well. They’ve worked really hard, both of them.

‘Alex is a bit further on than Marcus. I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break but Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well.’

United had made a superb start to the new campaign in the absence of Rashford, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s return reigniting the theatre of dreams.
