Though there has been no official confirmation, Ancelotti is widely expected to be replaced by Bayer Leverkusen’s outgoing boss, Xabi Alonso, who recently bid farewell to the German club’s fans following their loss to Borussia Dortmund.
It has long seemed likely that this would be Ancelotti’s final year at Madrid, particularly as the adaptation of star signing Kylian Mbappé has been more challenging than anticipated.
Following news of Ancelotti’s impending departure, The Athletic has revealed several behind-the-scenes details surrounding the transition.
According to reports from within the squad, four players in particular struggled under Ancelotti due to the absence of specialized coaches—mentors who focus on individualized player development.
Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler, and Endrick were reportedly the most affected, with the latter two also struggling for first-team opportunities.
Additionally, members of the squad had reportedly grown frustrated with the lack of tactical training sessions, believing it had negatively impacted their performances on the pitch.
Speaking publicly for the first time since his exit was confirmed, Ancelotti remained upbeat despite the club’s decision to make a managerial change.
“Why am I leaving? Like everything in life, things come to an end. I enjoyed my time here,” he told the media.
“I am leaving after 4 years where we won a lot of trophies. The experience will stay with me forever.
“I will be Brazil’s manager from May 26th. Right now, I am Madrid’s manager. I want to end in the best way I can and want to enjoy my final days. I respect the club, the fans and the players,” he added.
