However, the 25-year-old’s start in Spain hasn’t gone entirely as planned, managing just six goals (three from penalties) across 10 La Liga games, while Madrid trails Barcelona by nine points.
So far, Mbappe has been used mostly as a central forward, with Vinicius Jr on the left wing—a position Mbappe generally prefers himself.
As Carlo Ancelotti’s side struggles with results and Mbappe grows reportedly dissatisfied with his role, significant questions are emerging within Madrid.
Given the substantial effort Madrid invested to bring in Mbappe, it’s crucial they find a way to maximize his impact.
Spanish radio presenter Manu Carreño has shed light on the discussions happening behind the scenes.
“At the club, they are the first to know that something is happening. The feeling is that the solution does not seem easy and I don’t know what magic wand Ancelotti will have, because he is usually an expert in this type of solution,” Carreño said via El Larguero.
“The team does not run, does not defend, they are not supportive… and Ancelotti, if you are missing the engine room driver, then you can tell me…”
Although Mbappe’s arrival appears to have somewhat weakened Madrid’s performance, Carreño emphasized that, regardless of the circumstances, Madrid will continue to prioritize their new star signing.
“Real Madrid’s sporting project will revolve around Kylian Mbappé in the coming years.” For this reason, he comments that “maybe a decision has to be made in the summer, and we will see what happens with Vinicius,” Carreño continued.
“They are good players and they should understand each other, but there is concern at the club because the solution is not going to be easy.”
Pressure on Ancelotti will keep mounting if he cannot make the most of his new attack, especially following the club’s 3-1 home loss to AC Milan on Tuesday.
