However, the 2024 Champions League winners were eliminated in emphatic fashion, suffering a 4–0 loss to the French side.
PSG stunned Los Blancos early, scoring three times in the opening 24 minutes—two from Fabián Ruiz and one from Ousmane Dembélé—before Gonçalo Ramos added a fourth late on to complete the rout.
Real Madrid will now shift their focus to the upcoming La Liga season as they aim to reclaim the title from arch-rivals Barcelona.
During the second half, Alonso made several substitutions, including bringing on Brahim Díaz for Vinícius Júnior, Dani Carvajal for Gonzalo García, and Éder Militão for Raúl Asencio.
Jude Bellingham was also replaced by veteran midfielder Luka Modrić, who made his final appearance for the club.
Modrić, who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for around £30 million, has become one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
Over 13 seasons, he made 597 appearances and scored 43 goals, winning an astonishing 28 major trophies.
His honors include six Champions League titles, four La Liga championships, two Copa del Reys, five Spanish Super Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, and six FIFA Club World Cups.
It had already been confirmed that Modrić would leave the club following the conclusion of their Club World Cup campaign, which ended with the loss to PSG.
Speaking in May about the departure, Modric said: “I arrived in 2012 with the hope of wearing the jersey of the best team in the world and the ambition to do great things, but I couldn’t have imagined what came next,.
“Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. “I’m proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history.”
And he will now make the move to Serie A to join Italian giants AC Milan.
New manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has returned to the San Siro team for a second spell in charge, has already confirmed that Modric will arrive at the club next month.
He said: “Modric will arrive in August. He is an extraordinary player.”
