Rio Ferdinand rates Trevoh Chalobah & Chelsea’s squad this season

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has been ‘massively impressed’ by Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and has rated Thomas Tuchel’s team at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah moved to Chelsea at the age of eight and has been part of the first-team since 2018, but is hoping to finally enjoy a breakthrough season at the club, having spent the last three years out on loan.

The youngster helped the Blues win the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal last week and then scored in Chelsea’s  3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Ferdinand says he has been impressed by Chalobah and has spoken about Chelsea’s squad as Thomas Tuchel looks to lead them to their first Premier League title since 2017.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: ‘That result wasn’t a shock for me because Crystal Palace are in a mad rebuild under Patrick Vieira, and good luck to him by the way.

‘That game was a gimme for Chelsea. The big thing for me is Trevor Chalobah. I watched him in the Super Cup game, I was massively impressed with him and the way he defended.

‘He had three or four big moments, defensively, when he pulled the hat out of the bag. He then comes up with a goal at the weekend.

‘To see the emotion in a young player like that, it just reinforces that this is still a beautiful game.

‘Chelsea have got a deep squad, that’s the thing with Chelsea. We talk about Manchester United’s array of talent but Chelsea are the same.

‘Thomas Tuchel has got to pick from Lukaku, Werner, Havertz, Mount, Ziyech, Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, that’s seven players all worthy of playing in those positions.’
