Arsenal are set to splash over €60 million (£51 million) to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The fee will exceed his release clause slightly, allowing the Gunners to structure the payment in instalments—an arrangement made possible by the strong relationship between the two clubs.
The transfer is expected to be wrapped up shortly, positioning Zubimendi as Arsenal’s first major addition of the summer.
The Euro 2024 champion has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s elite defensive midfielders during his standout five-year run with Sociedad, and was previously close to a move to Liverpool before opting to stay loyal to his boyhood club.
Now, with Jorginho having joined Flamengo, Zubimendi is set to step into a key role alongside Declan Rice in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.
Arsenal’s transfer activity is expected to ramp up from here, with a new striker next on the agenda.
Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are among the top targets, and both forwards are reportedly open to a move to north London.
Gyokeres, in particular, is said to favour Arsenal over a potential reunion with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
