Cristiano Ronaldo’s one wish to stay at Man Utd as agent Mendes holds crunch talks

Cristiano Ronaldo’s only wish to stay at Manchester United beyond this summer is if they qualify for next season’s Champions League, according to reports.

The Portugal international’s return to Old Trafford hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far with the Red devils out of the FA Cup and currently sitting fifth in the Premier League.

With United far from guaranteed a place in the top four and recent displays not convincing under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Ronaldo is said to be considering his options.

The Sun claim the 37-year-old’s plans to stay at the club depend on whether they secure their spot in Europe’s elite club competition next campaign.

His agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly already held discussions with new United chief Richard Arnold to discuss the players concerns as well as his future.

A source told the paper: ‘Ronaldo is really torn about his future. He would love nothing more than to win trophies at United, but at the moment that seems like it’s going to be a struggle.

‘He doesn’t want to spend the last couple of years of his stellar career in mid-table. ‘Some big clubs are monitoring the situation and have put the feelers out already.’

Ronaldo won’t be short of offers either come the end of the campaign with PSG, Bayern Munich and Roma all reported to have expressed an interest already.

PSG would seem the most likely option because of their financial power and reports have already surfaced of a possible deal that could see Mauricio Pochettino move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has ended his six-game goal drought in the Premier League win over Brighton after scoring the opening goal of the game.
