One of the players linked to Arsenal was Manchester United’s out-of-favor forward, Marcus Rashford.
The 26-year-old has since joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season, with the Premier League side having an option to buy.
A report from TBR Football has now shed light on why the Gunners didn’t pursue a move for Rashford.
Graeme Bailey, Chief Correspondent at TBR Football, reported that Mikel Arteta’s side didn’t want to take a gamble on the Manchester United attacker.
Arteta’s current targets are long-term prospects for the Gunners, whereas Rashford would have been a temporary solution.
The Arsenal manager is determined to address his team’s attacking issues with a long-term fix.
Rashford impressed on his Villa debut against Tottenham in the FA Cup, helping Emery’s side advance to the next round.
However, Arsenal wanted a player they had thoroughly evaluated, and Rashford wasn’t one of them.
Arsenal’s long-term targets include RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
Although these players would cost the Gunners more than Rashford, they are willing to invest heavily to enhance their attacking options.
This is why they decided to save their budget until the end of the season when they can make a well-considered decision on their next signing.
