Thiago Alcantara will wear the No.6 jersey for Liverpool once he completes his transfer from Bayern Munich, according to reports.

The Premier League giants are finally closing in on a deal to sign the 29-year-old midfielder after agreeing a €30 million (£27.2m) fee with Bayern.

The Times claims Thiago has agreed to sign a four-year deal with the Reds and the Spain international will take the vacant No.6 shirt.

Liverpool’s No.6 jersey was worn for six years by Dejan Lovren, who left the club to sign for Zenit in July.

Thiago, meanwhile, has worn the No.6 for the Bundesliga Champions since he joined the club from Barcelona in 2013.

During his time in Germany, Thiago has won a whooping seven Bundesliga titles and ended his stint this summer window by helping the club win the UEFA Champions League.

But the midfielder wanted to leave Bayern before the end of the summer transfer window after failing to agree a new contract with the club.

Thiago’s current deal with the Champions League holders will expire at the end of the campaign and Bayern are unwilling to allow the former Barca star leave as a free agent next year.

Liverpool have always been frontrunners to sign Thiago with Jurgen Klopp a huge admirer of the Spanish midfielder.

But, Manchester United also expressed an interest in a deal but the Red devils were put off by the player’s wage demands.
