Top Man Utd star nears exit as Newcastle plot ambitious transfer swoop

Scott McTominay is open to joining Newcastle in the summer, according to reports, with three key figures at St. James’ Park driving the transfer.

McTominay was linked with Newcastle in January. But, Erik ten Hag did not want to sanction any major exits from his Manchester United squad at the time.

This season has seen McTominay’s chances limited. At the age of 26, he can’t afford for that to be the case for much longer.

And according to a new update from the Daily Telegraph, the United midfielder is attracted by the idea of moving to Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s side have made huge progress on the pitch this campaign. They were recently beaten by the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup final, but are still competing for European qualification.

To carry over their form into next season, Newcastle might need to make some signings. With that in mind, McTominay is back on their radar.

According to the Telegraph, Howe has identified McTominay as a target who could improve the club’s midfield. In addition, chief scout Steve Nickson and director of football Dan Ashworth believe signing him could lead to Newcastle adding another key element to their midfield.

It is a position that became deprived for the club when Shelvey left for Nottingham during the January transfer window.

However, The report does not mention how much Newcastle would be willing to offer for the Scotland international, nor how much United will ask to allow him leave.

McTominay is currently under contract at Old Trafford until 2025, with the option of another year.

But Newcastle have done their research on the player over the past year and Howe seems to be pushing for the green light to sign him.
