Tuchel gives Mason Mount injury update ahead of Chelsea’s game with Juventus

Thomas Tuchel has conceded that he’s unsure whether Mason Mount will recover in time to play in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage clash with Juventus.

Mount, who missed the defeat to Man City due to a ‘minor knock’ he sustained in last week’s Carabao Cup game against Aston Villa, has been a key part of Tuchel’s plans since the German coach arrived at the club last campaign.

After some superb displays for Chelsea over the last two years, Mount has also become an important member of Gareth Southgate’s England team and even started the Euro 2020 final against Italy in July.

Tuchel has confirmed that he still doesn’t know whether the midfielder will be available to play against Juventus on Wednesday.

‘I absolutely don’t know, we have to see. In the end it will be a matter of hours as to whether he makes it or not,’ he told Chelsea’s website.

Speaking after the defeat to Pep Guardiola’s City on Saturday, former Premier League player Rio Ferdinand said he felt that Chelsea missed Mount’s energy and bite during the match.

‘This was a statement performance. It was a 1-0 beating today. Chelsea weren’t part of the game. City dominated in all areas,’ he told BT Sport.

‘It was really convincing and just what City needed. Chelsea weren’t up to speed today, the intensity wasn’t there. They were beaten by a better side on the day.

‘Chelsea missed Mason Mount today, the way he connects the team and his energy. ‘I think Tuchel will want him back as soon as possible.’
