Thomas Tuchel singles out Chelsea star in Leicester win

Tuchel on Kante

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel hailed N’Golo Kante’s ‘outstanding’ display after the club recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Leicester City.

The Blues made light work of Brendan Rodgers’ team on Saturday as goals from Antonio Rudiger, Christian Pulisic and Kante secured the London side three points.

The latter scored a superb individual goal for Chelsea’s second as he went on a driving run before firing the ball past his Kasper Schmeichel from the edge of the box.

Tuchel was keen to pay tribute to the Frenchman’s performance in his post-match press conference.

‘It was a fantastic goal,’ said the German coach. ‘If you have N’Golo, you have N’Golo — and he’s outstanding. He seems to find another gear all the time on the pitch.

‘It was an excellent performance from him individually, and we’re happy that he’s back, that he feels good and plays with a free mind. ‘When he does this with confidence, he can be the difference.’

Chelsea currently sit top of the Premier League table, three points ahead of second-placed Manchester City and four clear of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Many are expecting the title race to go down to the wire with those three teams all in fine form and Tuchel is relishing the huge challenge.

‘I’m excited about it!’ said Tuchel. ‘I’m excited that we are right now a part of it and we want to stay a part of it.

‘I think that everybody around should be excited and proud of the league and its quality, and that every weekend anything can happen and you have more teams to challenge the top teams.

‘I don’t even know if it’s only three teams that are there [challenging for the league title]. ‘There are some teams also at the moment behind us who show consistency, who show quality, who show determination.

‘You are right to be proud of your competition here [in England], and for us it feels good at the moment in the middle of that race, and we want to stay in that race. ‘I cannot predict the future so we focus on our game today.’
