Ideally, Manchester United would make several big-money deals in the January transfer window to support new manager Ruben Amorim. ..Continue Reading
However, mid-season transfer windows rarely work that way, especially considering United’s financial struggles.
Amorim has confirmed that the club needs to sell players to make new signings this month but hinted at trying to secure much-needed additions.
Given that the Portuguese manager doesn’t view Joshua Zirkzee as a striker, bringing in a number nine is a top priority at Old Trafford.
Various players, including Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres, have been linked with United.
Reports suggest United have renewed interest in Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.
TeamTalk reported that United made a fresh enquiry about Osimhen’s services, but any deal is unlikely until the summer window.
Osimhen has stated that he is focused on finishing his loan spell at Galatasaray before considering his future.
Osimhen has 12 goals and five assists in just 15 appearances for Galatasaray this season.
Regardless of Zirkzee’s future at United, they need a more experienced forward. Amorim doesn’t see the Dutchman as a number nine, suggesting his future lies in a number ten role if he stays at Old Trafford.
This leaves Rasmus Højlund as the only senior number nine, and he has yet to prove his consistency as a starter.
An experienced forward is needed on the pitch and to mentor Højlund, who is still only 21 years old.
Despite this need, it seems Amorim will have to wait until the summer transfer window.
