Earlier this week, reports emerged that Arsenal had taken the first step by submitting a formal offer to Sporting, believed to be around €60 million with add-ons.
Now, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gyokeres has made it clear that his preferred move is to the Emirates Stadium, placing Arsenal firmly in the lead to secure his signature.
With negotiations ongoing, all eyes are on whether the Gunners can finalize a deal for one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
He wrote on X: “Viktor Gyökeres’ priority is to join Arsenal this summer despite calls from Manchester United in the recent weeks. Gyökeres always an option amid Šeško talks with no deal sealed so far, Arsenal keep assessing situation.
“United remain keen but believe deal now unlikely.”
This week, Gyokeres took to social media to speak out on the speculation surrounding his future.
On Instagram, he wrote: “There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”
Romano has previously claimed that there is a ‘tense situation’ between Sporting and Gyokeres.
He wrote on social media: “Tense situation between Viktor Gyökeres and Sporting. Despite previous pact for exit worth fee around €65m w/add-ons, Sporting president insists on higher fee.
“Price still under €100m clause but not €65m now. Gyökeres, described as furious.”
Aside from Gyokeres, the Gunners have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
It has been claimed that discussions have been held over a summer transfer but so far, nothing has been agreed.
