What Mason Mount told his dad after Champions League win

Mason Mount

Mason Mount told his dad he would win the Premier League with Chelsea just moments after their Champions League win.

Mount helped Chelsea win club football’s biggest competition for the second time last week with a 1-0 victory over Man City, who won the Premier League.

The England star has enjoyed another superb season at Stamford Bridge and scored in the semi-final win over Real Madrid, before providing the assist for Havertz’s winner in the final.

The 22-year-old was seen celebrating with his dad and brother after Chelsea won the UEFA Champions League in Porto, and Mount senior has revealed the conversation they had after the final.

Tony Mount told The Byline podcast: ‘When we were on the pitch after the game, I grabbed him by his ears I think and I just said, “you’ve won it, you’ve won the Champions League! Can you believe it?”

‘He just went, “yeah, I’m going to win the Premier League now”.

‘It’s like, “enjoy this one”, but he’s like, “I am but I’m going to win the Premier League, we’re going to win the Premier League”. I’m like, “yeah I agree, I think you will”.

“It’s unbelievable and that’s why I’m saying, ‘Mason, enjoy this, suck it all in, go and give something back to the fans’.

‘We will think about winning the Premier League pre-season but that’s Mason you know. He’s won the Champions League now, he wants to win the Premier League.’

Speaking to BT Sport after Chelsea triumph over City, Blues midfielder Mount said: ‘I can’t put it into words. It’s impossible.

‘I’ve played in two [previous] finals for Chelsea and we lost them both. It’s all I’ve dreamt of, winning a trophy with Chelsea.

‘To go all the way in the Champions League, we played some tough teams. At this moment in time, we’re the best team in the world. You can’t take that away from us.’
