What Tuchel said about Man Utd & Ten Hag in ‘secret’ Jim Ratcliffe meeting

Thomas Tuchel’s potential discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe about the Manchester United managerial position have come to light following a clandestine meeting in Monaco.

After leaving Bayern Munich at the season’s end, Tuchel, who had a brief stint with the German club, is now a strong candidate for the Manchester United role.

Despite his short tenure at Bayern, he led them to the Champions League semi-finals and prevented Bayer Leverkusen from dominating the Bundesliga.

Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is uncertain, even after his team’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City.

The Red Devils’ eighth-place finish in the Premier League did not deter ten Hag from securing Europa League qualification. His contract is set to expire next year, and there are speculations about his potential departure from the club.

BILD Sport’s Christian Falk reported that Tuchel met with Ratcliffe in Monaco last Tuesday.

Tuchel reportedly shared his vision for Manchester United should he take over from ten Hag. He also discussed strategies for integrating Jadon Sancho into the team and revitalizing Mason Mount, drawing parallels to his successful management of Antonio Rudiger at Chelsea.

In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of Euro 2024 this summer, Louis van Gaal was quizzed on his fellow countrymen’s future. He insisted that the Dutchman needs more time at United.

“Yes of course (he should stay) but I also needed more time,” said the 72-year-old. “I also won the FA Cup, and before me, 20 years nobody had won the FA Cup. Now, Erik is winning the FA Cup, the first year also (qualifying for the) Champions League so I don’t think you have to sack him – he needs more time.

“But I can also be more critical, he’s not done it fantastically. You can be with a lot of criticism but he’s also shown he’s a good manager.”

Speaking to reporters after the FA Cup final last month, Ten Hag spoke about his future. He said: “I’m in a project and we are exactly where we want to be. We’re constructing a team. When I took over, it was a mess at United.

“We are on our way to construct a team for the future. We’ll go with the ups and downs. What you see is the team is developing, the team is winning, at the end of the day it is about winning trophies.”

Ten Hag added: “Two trophies in two years is not bad. Three finals is not bad, but we have to keep going. I’m not satisfied with it. We have to do better. If they don’t want me anymore, I go anywhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career.”
