Man United have decided to move on from midfielder Casemiro in 2026, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.
The club is reportedly considering letting the Brazil international leave either during the January window or for free at the end of the season, as they aim to reshape their midfield and possibly bring in a new recruit.
Casemiro’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in June, and he remains one of the highest earners at the club, taking home £350,000-a-week.
The ‘world-class’ 33-year-old has been a key figure for Ruben Amorim early in the campaign, starting five Premier League matches and scoring in United’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea last month.
Galetti, posting on X, noted that United are looking to cut down their wage expenses with Casemiro’s exit in 2026, and it’s widely expected this will be his final season at the club.
Casemiro arrived at United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and has since played 131 times for the Red Devils, registering 18 goals and 12 assists.
His midfield pairing with captain Bruno Fernandes has been preferred by Amorim this season, though it has drawn criticism from supporters and analysts, especially with England’s Kobbie Mainoo frequently left out of the starting lineup.
Casemiro is among several United players with contracts ending soon, including Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, and Tom Heaton, all of whom are set to see their deals expire in June.
GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano reports that United are negotiating an extension for Maguire, while Malacia is likely to depart.
The Dutch defender has not played for United this season and only recently rejoined full training after a failed transfer attempt during the summer.
United currently sit 10th in the Premier League after seven matches and are set to face Liverpool away on Sunday.
