Lamine Yamal has reportedly made two major requests following the signing of his new Barcelona contract—moves that could stir tension among his teammates.
After a breakout year for both club and country, Yamal has quickly risen to become one of the most exciting talents in world football.
It was no surprise, then, that Barcelona acted swiftly to secure his long-term future with a new deal. ..Continue Reading
Following extended negotiations, the young winger signed a six-year contract last month, committing to the club until 2031—by which time he’ll still be only 23 years old.
While enjoying his offseason break, details have surfaced about the terms of his contract and the specific conditions he’s asked for ahead of the new campaign—requests that may not sit well with some of his fellow players.
Yamal’s new deal includes a staggering €1 billion release clause, and if he meets all performance-related targets, he could earn up to €40 million annually before taxes, placing him among the club’s top earners.
Barcelona described the extension as a sign of the strength and stability of their current project in an official statement.
According to reports from Spain, Yamal has also asked to be given responsibility for both free kicks and penalties starting next season.
Currently, those duties are shared between Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, with the Polish striker being the primary penalty taker.
It’s unclear whether Yamal has been granted full control over both set pieces or simply wants to be considered more regularly for those opportunities.
Either way, the idea of being replaced in those roles may not be welcomed by his teammates, especially given their solid performances in recent seasons.
For Yamal, however, taking on those responsibilities could significantly boost his already impressive stats.
In the 2024/25 season, the 17-year-old racked up 18 goals and 25 assists in 55 appearances, helping Barcelona win a domestic treble and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
With a penalty conversion rate of 80% from five attempts for Spain, being on spot-kick duty could see his goal tally rise even further.
