You will not walk back into my starting XI – Arteta fires warning to Aubameyang

Mikel Arteta has confirmed the internal issue with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been “resolved”, but he has warned the forward that he must earn his place back in his team.

Aubameyang was dropped from the starting lineup by Arteta after arriving late for their London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Arsenal striker also missed out on the warm-down session after the match, which is a routine procedure for any player who fail to take part in the match.

Questions have been raised over Aubameyang’s future at the club after the incident. But Arteta has said that the striker’s issue has now been dealt with.

‘We talked,’ Arteta said on Wednesday. ‘Everything has been resolved in a really positive way, so we move forward.’

Asked if Aubameyang will return to the starting XI, Arteta replied: ‘No, everybody has to obviously perform at the highest level to earn their place in the team.

‘There is no exception there and we will try to put a really competitive team out tomorrow to try to win again.’

However, Arsenal are currently ten points behind fourth-place Chelsea in the Premier League having played a game less, with a key game against West Ham on Sunday.

If they fall short domestically, the gunners will have to win the Europa League to qualify for the continental competition, and Aubameyang’s goals could be a huge difference as he currently has 14 in 29 games in all competitions.
